UHB3022 ENGLISH FOR WORKPLACE COMMUNICATION( ENGLISH FOR WORKPLACE COMMUNICATION)

The course aims to introduce and expose students to the basic principles of communication at the workplace. This includes appreciating the importance of the four language skills, i.e. listening, reading, speaking and writing in effective workplace communication. In the course students will have the opportunity tp practise effective meeting and discussion skills in formal and informal communicative events and read and write appropriate workplace related documents. Students will also be exposed to situations where they learn to function as individuals and team members and interact verbally and non-verbally with appropriate language, style and gestures.

UHB3032 READING FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES( READING FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES)

The aim of this course is to introduce students to texts of different genres and rhetorical structures, namely, literature and science-based texts. Students are taught to deal with two main areas of reading : reading for academic purposes and reading to appreciate literary texts. In reading for academic purposes, students are exposed to authentic texts drawn from journals, research articles and magazies. They are taught how to discuss and respond critically to issues related to the texts. They are required to extract holistic ideas of the theme and react to them by stating agreement or disagreement, advantages or disadvantages of the ideas stated and making inferential opinion and justification. In appreciating literary texts, students are taught to analyse some literary texts. They are also required to share their own experience, perceptions, and opinions to issues presented in the literary texts. In both, reading for acedemic purpose and literary appreciation, the texts serve as stimulus and context for language

UHB3042 WRITING FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES( WRITING FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES)

The course focuses on two areas of writing: (1) the writing of technical information that students would be expected to perform in their professional career, and (2) the skills of organizing various types of data towards producing a thesis. For the frist part of the course, students will be introduced to the techniques of gathering technical information about product, service or specialized subjects and to present that information to a target audience in the form of instructional manuals, brochures, memorandums and reports. The various forms and functions of these written documents will also be discussed. For the second part of the course, students will have the opportunity to go through the steps in planning a thesis, assembling and presenting data, writing the findings, and drawing conclusions from a study. In addition, the students will be exposed to the nature of academic thesis, and analyse and evaluate existing theses. For both parts, the English grammar, proper language usage and acceptable writing will be covered.

UHB3052 EFFECTIVE ORAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS( EFFECTIVE ORAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS)

The course focuses on the techniques of producing good spoken discourses (to include oral presentation, speech and briefing) using the English sound and speech systems. Aspects of sound production and speech produciton aimed at improving intelligibility and communicability will be covered. It will also incorporate aspects of confidence building, visual aids preparation and audience handling. Participants will be substantial practice in speech delivery.

UHS1142 TAMADUN ISLAM DAN TAMADUN ASIA II (TITAS II)( ISLAMIC CIVILIZATION AND ASIAN CIVILIZATION II)

Matapelajaran ini membincangkan tentang proses perkembangan dan pencapaian tamadun masyarakat dengan memberi pemahaman kepada aspek nilai falsafah tamadun dan pembangunan dalam melahirkan generasi dan masyarakat berjiwa murni dan bestari. Kandungan matapelajaran meliputi aspek yang berkaitan dengan konsep tamadun dan pembangunan, perkembangan tamadun dan unsur-unsur nilai falsafah tamadun masyarakat Asia.

UHS1152 HUBUNGAN ETNIK( ETNIC RELATIONS)

Kursus ini membincangkan tentang konsep-konsep asas sosiologi mengenai budaya dan hubungan etnik. Ia juga memfokuskan perkembangan hubungan etnik di Malaysia dari perspektif sosiologi, sejarah dan perlembagaan. Kefahaman pelajar tentang perkembangan negara sebagai warganegara juga ditekankan agar mereka dapat memainkan peranan dan menyumbang kepada pembangunan negara. Isu-isu dan cabaran globalisasi dalam konteks budaya dan hubungan etnik. Ia juga membincangkan dasar-dasar kerajaan dalam mewujudkan perpaduan nasional dari perspektif Islam.

This course discusses the basic sociological concepts on culture and ethnic relations. It focuses on the development ethnic relations in Malaysia from the sociology, history and constitution perspectives. It also emphasis to develop skills in understanding a making sense of Malaysian society thus enable the students to contribute to the country’s development. Among the topics that are covered in the course are issues on globalised, government policies and strategies in the context of national solidarity and development, multi-ethnic relations for the Islamic perspectives and cultures.

UHS2032 TEKNOKRAT DAN PEMBANGUNAN( TECHNOCRATS AND DEVELOPMENT)

Matapelajaran ini membincangkan tentang peranan dan tanggungjawab teknokrat dalam proses pembangunan negara yang merangkumi bidang sosial, ekonomi, politik, teknologi, etika profesional dan isu-isu globalisasi pelbagai perpektif.

This course focuses on technocrats’ roles and responsibilities toward the nation development process. This course includes topics on sociology, economics, politics, technology, professional ethics and globalization issues from various perspectives.

UHS2042 PENGENALAN SOSIOLOGI INDUSTRI( INTRODUCTION TO INDUSTRIAL SOCIOLOGY)

Mata pelajaran ini membincangkan aspek industri mengikut perspektif sosiologi. Ia membincangkan peranan sosiologi industri, perkembangan dan implikasi perindustrian ke atas masyarakat dan keluarga. Selain itu, hak-hak pekerja dalam undang-undang dan fungsi kesatuan sekerja dalam mencorakkan hubungan industri.

The aim of this course is to discuss industrial aspect according to sociological perspectives. It focuses on the role of industrial sociology, industrial development and implication towards society and family. It also discusses employees’ rights under respective laws and the union functions in industrial relation.

UHS2052 KOMUNIKASI BERKESAN( EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION)

Mata pelajaran ini memberi tumpuan kepada kemahiran berkomunikasi. Kandungan mata pelajaran ini meliputi komunikasi lisan dan bukan lisan, keberkesanan komunikasi antara individu, komunikasi awam, pengurusan konflik dan penyelasaian masalah.

This course focuses on effective communication techniques. These include verbal and non verbal communication, interpersonal communication effectiveness, public speaking, conflicts management and problem solving.

UHS2062 PENGENALAN PSIKOLOGI INDUSTRI( INTRODUCTION TO INDUSTRIAL PSYCHOLOGY)

Mata pelajaran ini menjelaskan tentang tingkahlaku dan emosi manusia. Kandungan mata pelajaran ini termasuklah pengenalan konsep psikologi industri, sejarah perkembangannya. Psikologi personel-pemilihan pekerja, ujian-ujian psikologikal, penilaian prestasi dan pembangunan staf dan latihan, psikologi organisasi kelompok dinamik, motivasi kepimpinan, komunikasi, konflik, tekanan kerja dan persekitaran kerja.

Industrial Psychology is a part of psychology discipline, which is related to behavioral science at workplace. It also applies psychological principals to understand various behaviors, which involve employees and work. Industrial psychology also considers personnel issue, workplace problems and behavioral management at workplace.

UHS2072 HUBUNGAN RAS( RACE RELATIONS)

Matapelajaran ini menyentuh aspek-aspek yang bersangkutan sosiologi hubungan ras. Ia menyingkap konsep-konsep asas hubungan ras seperti ras, rasis, rasisme, etnik, etnosentrisme, prasangka, steretoip, bentuk hubungan ras/etnik di Malaysia, Balkan, Afrika Selatan, Amerika Syarikat dan di negara-negara Asia Tenggara. Tumpuan diberikan kepada punca, kesan, proses dan cara-cara mengatasi masalah hubungan ras.

The course aims to introduce and expose students to the aspects related to social relation sociology. This includes basic concepts of racial relation such as race, races, racism, ethnic, ethnocentrism, prejudice, stereotype, and form of races/ethnics identity in Malaysia, Balkan, South Africa, United States and South East Asia countries. The focus is more on cause, effects, process and methods of solving racial relation problems.

UHS2082 PEMBANGUNAN SOSIO-EKONOMI MALAYSIA( MALAYSIAN SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT)

Mata pelajaran ini menekankan pengertian dan pengukuran pembangunan, teori-teori pembangunan, rancangan pembangunan di Malaysia sebelum dan selepas merdeka, pembasmian kemiskinan, penyusunan masyarat dan strategi pembangunan di Malaysia dalam pelbagai sektor. Strategik pembangunan terutamanya dilihat dalam sektor urbanisasi, perusahaan awam, penswastaan, pelaburan asing, pemindahan teknologi dan dasar perindustrian negara.

The course focuses into the meaning and measurement of development, development theories, and development plan in Malaysia before and after Independence Day, poverty eradication, society restructuring and development strategy of various sectors in Malaysia. The development strategy is viewed especially in urbanization, industrial sector, privatization, foreign investment, technology transfer and national industrial policy.

UHS2092 ETIKA PROFESIONAL( PROFESIONAL ETHICS)

Mata pelajaran ini meliputi persoalan asas tentang etika(moral), teori-teori etika, kesedaran etika, prinsip dan fungsi etika, hubungan etika dengan profesionalisme, masalah etika dalam profesion, nilai dan struktur etika professional, obligasi menberikan perkhidmatan, obligasi terhadap klien, obligasi terhadap profesion, isu-isu etika semasa dalam bidang pengurusan, perubatan, kejuruteraan dan perniagaan.

This course consists basic debates on ethics (morale), ethics theories, ethics awareness, ethics principals and functions, ethics relations with professionalism, ethics problem in profession, value and structure of professional ethics, service obligation, obligation towards client, obligation towards profession, ethics current issues in management, medical, engineering and business.

UHS2102 PENGENALAN KEPADA KAUNSELING( INTRODUCTION TO CAUNSELING)

Mata pelajaran ini adalah mata pelajaran elektif. Ia merangkumi pengenalan dan konsep kaunseling, kemahiran asas kaunseling, kaunseling kerjaya, kaunseling tempat kerja, masalah-masalah disektor industri, temuduga, membuat resume dan kaunselor di industri.

The aim of the course is to expose students to the fundamentals of counseling. This includes counseling concept, basic counseling skill, career counseling, workplace counseling, industrial problems, interview and counselor’s role in industry.

UHS2112 PENGENALAN HUBUNGAN ANTARABANGSA( INTRODUCTION TO INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS)

Mata pelajaran ini merupakan suatu displin ilmu yang semakin berkembang dan bertambah penting. Kepentingan dan keperluan bidang pengajian hubungan antarabangsa diperkukuhkan dengan bidang pengajian strategik. Jesteru itu, skop pengajian mata pelajaran ini akan menjelaskan perkembangan hubungan antarabangsa. Pada masa yang sama, pengajian kursus ini juga membincangkan isu-isu yang bersifat 'tematik' seperti ekonomi dan perdagangan antarabangsa, undang-undang, ketenteraan, hak asasi manusia, Islam dan hubungan antarabangsa, goblisasi dan Tatacara Baru Dunia ( New World Order ).

The aim of this course is to explain the development of international relation. This course will also discuss thematic issues such as economics and international trade, laws, military, human rights, Islam and International Relation, globalization and New World Order.

UHS2122 PEMIKIRAN KRITIS DAN KREATIF( CREATIVE AND CRITICAL THINKING)

Mata pelajaran ini memberikan penekanan kepada konsep, teori dan amalan pemikiran kritis dan kreatif. Pendedahan kepada teknik berfikir secara kritis dan kreatif serta faktor-faktor penghalang kepada kedua-dua cara berfikir. Kedua-dua cara berfikir membantu pelajar untuk membuat keputusan atau menyelesaikan masalah samaada dalam bentuk kumpulan atau individu.

The aim of the course is to develop students understanding of the concept, theory and practices of critical and creative thinking. Attention is on critical and creative thinking technique as well as obstacles factors of both thinking methods. Both thinking methods help students to make decisions or solve problems whether in-group or individual.

Gejala-gejala dekadensi moral, isu-isu ekonomi, pembangunan dan alam sekitar isu-isu etika dalam sains dan teknologi, isu globalisasi dan pertembungan peradaban barat dan timur. Cabaran-cabaran yang dihadapi oleh Masyarakat Malaysia masakini, pemerintahan dan pentadbiran : Sistem Parlimen, Demokrasi dan Autokrasi, aliran pemikiran pasca modernisme, persoalan extrimisme dan fundamentalisme agama, isu hubungan etnik dan chauvinisme ras dan isu-isu yang menyangkut soal kewibawaan Islam.

Symptoms of moral decadency, Economic issues, Development and environment, Ethics issues in science and technology, Globalisation issue and conflict of Western and Eastern civilization.
